What is Ultherapy®?

Approved by the FDA, Ultherapy® is a new ultrasound treatment for your face and neck that counteracts the effects of time and gravity on your face. In your 30-60 minute treatment, Ultherapy® uses your body's own regenerative response to gently, gradually, and reliably restore memory to the skin and underlying tissue by helping your tissue begin to reproduce collagen.

Am I a Good Candidate?

You are a good candidate for Ultherapy® if your skin has "relaxed" to the point of looking, and often feeling, less firm. Can it be used with other Procedures?

Yes! Since Ultherapy® affects the deep layers of tissue, the treatment is complimentary, and compatible with, cosmetic procedures such as a facelift and a browlift. It may also be used before a facelift is recommended, and as the skin continues to age following surgery.

Is it Safe?

Ultrasound has been used in medical imaging and therapeutics, such as sonograms, for over 50 years. Clinical studies have confirmed the safety of Ultherapy® for use on the face and neck. As with any medical procedure there are general safety considerations, which your physician will review with you.

The Procedure

The doctor or nurse touches the smooth Ulthera® ultrasound applicator to your face. They can then see into your skin and the tissue beneath. As with other sonograms, an image is projected onto a screen that both you and the medical practitioner can see. This same handpiece is then used to deliver low levels of heat energy at just the right depth below the skin to achieve a positive effect, leaving the surface of your skin unharmed.

Your skin's response to the energy is to contract slightly right away, and then to stimulate the growth of new collagen over time. A gradual tightening occurs, ultimately resulting in a natural, beneficial lift of facial skin tissue.

Does it Hurt?

Comfort levels vary from person to person. While many people do not feel the need for any pain medication during the procedure, we will give you medication options for staying comfortable during treatment if you choose. Many patients describe a momentary prickling or heat beneath the skin. This is the ultrasound energy being delivered to the tissue, which is how Ultherapy® lifts and tightens the facial tissues.

How long is the Treatment?

A full face and neck Ultherapy® treatment session lasts 45-60 minutes; a partial face will take 30 minutes.

What to Expect and Recovery Time

You may return to your normal activities right away, and you don't need to take any special measures. Your skin may appear a bit flushed or puffy immediately after the treatment, but any redness should disappear in a matter of hours.

After Ultherapy®

With just one treatment, the regenerative process is initiated. You will notice the full effect building gradually over the course of two to three months. Clinical studies demonstrate significant lifting of the brow line after just one treatment, creating a more "open" youthful look to the eyes and an overall refreshed look. Patients also reported firmer, tighter, better-fitting skin in other areas of the face and neck such as a softening of the creases around their nose and mouth, a more defined jawline, and less laxity under the chin.

Is it the same as a Facelift?

No, there is not a non-surgical way to produce the dramatic results of facial surgery at this time, but Ultherapy® provides a great non-invasive approach for significant skin tightening and actual lifting.
