Liposuction

You may be in good health, eat right and exercise, but you still have stubborn areas of fat deposits. If you would like to slim and reshape certain areas of your body while improving your body contours, then liposuction may be right for you.

What is Liposuction?

Read Splurge Article Liposuction is a procedure used to refine the body's contour with the removal of fat deposits beneath the skin. Fat cells are permanently removed from the directed area, and this results in a thinner, more sculpted physique. Liposuction (lipo) is sometimes done in conjunction with a facelift, thigh lift, breast reduction or tummy tuck. Liposuction may reduce fat deposits in the following areas:

  • Cheeks, chin and neck
  • Upper arms and back
  • Breast or chest area
  • Abdomen and waist
  • Hips, thighs, inner knee, buttocks, calves and ankles

Who can have Liposuction?

You are a candidate for liposuction if you are a man or woman who is in good physical health, Legs yet have areas of excess, stubborn fat that are resisting your diet and exercise efforts. Having firm and elastic skin will result in a better final contour and enhanced look. It is important to note that liposuction is not a substitute for weight reduction. Liposuction is intended to remove excess fat in problem areas and must be supplemented by a healthy diet and exercise plan in order to maintain results. This procedure is not intended for the primary purpose of weight loss, although some weight may be lost during the process.

Liposuction Procedure

At the Plastic Surgery Center, our physicians use power assisted liposuction or PAL. While there are various technologies that can be used in liposuction, each technique has its own characteristics, and is usually a matter of technical preference of the surgeons.

Your surgeon will give you certain preoperative care instructions. While we have included some on our website, they should not be a substitute for your physician's instructions.

A consultation with one of the physicians at the Plastic Surgery Center is your essential first step to learn how liposuction can improve your appearance. If you're ready to schedule your complimentary cosmetic consultation* and discuss your liposuction in more detail, call us at 316.688.7500 or request your consultation online today.

What to Expect

Your surgery may be performed in our accredited ambulatory surgical suite or a hospital. The decision for anesthesia will be based on requirements of your specific procedure and considerations of your preference as well as your surgeon's. At the Plastic Surgery Center, your safety and comfort are very important.

Liposuction Recovery Time and Expectations

Your initial healing may include swelling, numbness, soreness and bruising that can be controlled with medication. Your wound may take 5-10 days to heal, and your healing will continue for several weeks. Your physician will provide you with more specific post op instructions. We have included some basic instructions on our website, but they should not be a substitute for your physician's specific guidelines.

After Liposuction

Your swelling may continue for several months as your new contours continue to develop. You will enjoy your slimmer, better-proportioned body as long as you maintain your weight, eat healthy and exercise.

*Some restrictions may apply on the complimentary consultation. Does not apply to insurance funded surgeries.
